Overview

IVF & Fertility

In vitro fertilisation (IVF) involves stimulating the ovaries with hormone medication, collecting the eggs, fertilising them with sperm in the laboratory and transferring an embryo into the womb. With ICSI, a single sperm is injected directly into each egg. Assessing both partners before treatment is important, as it helps identify what may be affecting fertility and allows the most suitable protocol to be chosen.

Under Turkish regulations, IVF is provided only to married couples using their own eggs and sperm. The number of embryos transferred is also set by regulation and your doctor's assessment. Treatment can carry risks, including ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), multiple pregnancy and risks related to egg collection; your doctor will discuss these with you in detail and monitor you closely throughout.

Türkiye has become a destination for couples from many countries thanks to modern IVF laboratories, experienced reproductive medicine specialists and short waiting times. At Trend Link we organise the review of your reports, your appointments, accommodation and interpreting, and a patient coordinator is available to you 24/7, with care and discretion during what can be a sensitive time.

Techniques & options

01

Fertility assessment

For the female partner this includes ovarian reserve (AMH), hormone tests and an ultrasound scan; for the male partner, a detailed semen analysis. Further tests of the fallopian tubes, the womb or genetic factors are arranged if needed.

02

IVF

Hormone injections encourage several eggs to develop, which are then collected under sedation and combined with sperm in the laboratory. A suitable embryo is transferred into the womb on the day your doctor decides.

03

ICSI

A single sperm is injected into each mature egg under a microscope. It is often used when sperm count or motility is low, or when fertilisation problems occurred in a previous cycle. Where no sperm is found in the sample, surgical sperm retrieval from the husband may be considered.

04

Embryo freezing

Good-quality embryos that are not transferred can be frozen by vitrification, stored and transferred in a later cycle. Freezing and storage are subject to Turkish regulations and the couple's written consent.

05

Genetic screening (PGT)

A few cells taken from each embryo can be tested before transfer for chromosomal abnormalities or a known single-gene condition in the family. PGT is carried out for medical reasons; sex selection without a medical reason is not permitted in Türkiye.

Is it right for you?

  • Married couples who have not conceived after a year of regular intercourse (six months if the wife is over 35)
  • Women with blocked or damaged fallopian tubes
  • Men with a low sperm count, reduced motility or abnormal sperm shape
  • Women diagnosed with ovulation disorders such as polycystic ovary syndrome, or with endometriosis
  • Couples with unexplained infertility or unsuccessful previous treatment
  • Couples with a known genetic condition in the family who are considering genetic screening

Recovery timeline

  1. Day of egg collection

You rest for a few hours after the procedure. Mild cramping, bloating or light spotting are common; you can return to your hotel the same day, ideally with a companion.

  2. The next few days

Bloating and tenderness usually settle quickly. Marked abdominal swelling, shortness of breath, nausea or passing less urine may be signs of OHSS and should be reported to the team straight away.

  3. Transfer and the days after

After the transfer you rest briefly, and most women return to light daily activities. Your doctor will advise on avoiding strenuous exercise and heavy lifting, and prescribed support medication should be taken as directed.

  4. 10–14 days after transfer

A beta-hCG blood test is carried out to check for pregnancy, and it can be done in your home country. Depending on the result, your doctor will advise on continuing medication and the next steps.

Your treatment journey

1

Initial review

You share both partners' existing test results, details of any previous treatment and your marriage certificate with us. These are passed in confidence to a reproductive medicine specialist for a preliminary review.

2

Treatment plan and written quote

You receive a written quote outlining the proposed protocol, an estimated timeline and what is included. If your doctor agrees, stimulation can begin in your home country, with monitoring scans carried out there.

3

Arrival, consultation and monitoring

We arrange your visa, VIP transfers, hotel and interpreter. After your consultation in Istanbul, egg development is closely monitored with ultrasound scans and blood tests, and medication doses are adjusted accordingly.

4

Egg collection and the laboratory stage

The eggs are collected in a short procedure under sedation, and the husband provides a sperm sample on the same day. Fertilisation is carried out by IVF or ICSI, and the embryos' development is followed in the laboratory for several days.

5

Embryo transfer and follow-up

The embryo chosen by your doctor is usually transferred into the womb 3–5 days after egg collection in a short procedure that does not require anaesthesia, or the embryos are frozen. We stay in touch with you for the pregnancy test and later check-ups.

What affects the cost

You receive a written, itemised quote once your reports have been reviewed — before you travel.

  • The protocol used and the type and dose of medication
  • Whether IVF or ICSI is used
  • Whether genetic screening (PGT) is carried out and how many embryos are tested
  • Embryo freezing and length of storage
  • Any additional tests needed before treatment, or surgical sperm retrieval
  • Length of stay, choice of hotel, transfers and interpreting

Frequently asked questions

Who can have IVF treatment in Türkiye?

Under Turkish regulations, IVF is provided only to married couples using their own eggs and sperm. A valid marriage certificate is therefore required before treatment begins. Your suitability for treatment is decided by the doctor after both partners have been assessed.

How long do we need to stay in Türkiye?

A stay of around 2–3 weeks is usually planned for the wife; this can be shorter if stimulation begins in your home country. The husband generally only needs to be present for a few days around egg collection. The exact timetable is set by your doctor according to how your ovaries respond to the medication.

What is the difference between IVF and ICSI?

In conventional IVF, eggs and sperm are placed together in the laboratory and fertilisation is allowed to happen naturally. In ICSI, a single sperm is injected directly into each mature egg. Your doctor decides which method to use based on the semen analysis and your previous treatment history.

What are the risks of treatment?

Possible risks include ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), multiple pregnancy, rare bleeding or infection related to egg collection, and side effects of the medication. To reduce these risks, doses are tailored to each patient and progress is closely monitored with scans and blood tests. Your doctor will explain the risks that apply to your own situation.

Can genetic screening (PGT) be used to choose the baby's sex?

No. In Türkiye, PGT is carried out only for medical reasons, such as screening for chromosomal abnormalities or a known genetic condition in the family. Sex selection without a medical reason is prohibited by law. Your doctor will assess whether PGT is appropriate for you.

How many embryos are transferred, and what happens to the rest?

The number of embryos transferred is decided by your doctor in line with Turkish regulations, taking into account the wife's age and the number of previous attempts; in most cases a single embryo is transferred. Suitable embryos that are not transferred can be frozen and stored with the couple's written consent for use in a later cycle. The storage period and conditions are explained to you in advance.
