Overview

Hair Transplant

A hair transplant is a surgical procedure in which hair follicles (grafts) are taken from the back and sides of the scalp, where hair is genetically more resistant to loss, and placed into thinning or bald areas. It is usually performed under local anaesthesia, and because your own hair is used, the transplanted follicles continue to grow in their new location. Thin beards, moustaches and eyebrows can be treated using similar techniques.

The outcome depends largely on the capacity of your donor area, the extent of hair loss and a hairline designed to suit your facial features. Before the procedure, your doctor assesses your hair and scalp, discusses realistic expectations with you and decides on the technique and graft plan that suit you. A transplant does not stop the underlying hair loss, so supportive treatments to protect existing hair may also be recommended.

Türkiye is a popular destination for hair transplants thanks to its long-standing experience in the field, clinics used to caring for international patients and a strong balance of quality and value. At Trend Link, we coordinate every step for you — from the doctor's initial review of your photos and a written quote to transfers, accommodation and follow-up once you are back home.

Techniques & options

01

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)

Follicles are removed one by one from the donor area with a micro-motor and placed into small channels. As it leaves no linear scar, it is one of the most widely used techniques.

02

Sapphire FUE

The channels are opened with sapphire-tipped blades rather than steel. The aim is finer, cleaner channels, closer placement and less trauma to the tissue.

03

DHI (Direct Hair Implantation)

Grafts are implanted with a specialised Choi pen that opens the channel and places the follicle in a single step. It may be preferred when adding density between existing hair.

04

Beard and moustache transplant

Follicles, usually taken from the back of the scalp, are placed into patchy or sparse beard and moustache areas at angles that follow your facial features.

05

Eyebrow transplant

A delicate procedure using fine, single-hair grafts, placed to follow the natural direction and shape of the brow.

06

PRP support

Platelet-rich plasma prepared from your own blood is applied to the scalp. Your doctor may recommend it to support healing after a transplant and to help existing hair.

Is it right for you?

  • Men with male-pattern hair loss that has largely stabilised
  • People with sufficient hair density at the back and sides of the scalp
  • Women with thinning whose cause has been investigated and whom the doctor considers suitable
  • Those with a sparse or patchy beard, moustache or eyebrows
  • People seeking to cover a scar or correct a previous transplant
  • Anyone whose general health allows a procedure under local anaesthesia and who has realistic expectations

Recovery timeline

  1. First 3 days

Tenderness, mild pain and some swelling on the forehead are common. You take the medication your doctor recommends and sleep with your head raised.

  2. Weeks 1–2

Scabs in the transplanted area fall away with regular washing and redness fades. Most people return to desk work and daily life, while still avoiding strenuous exercise and direct sun.

  3. Months 2–4

Temporary shedding of some transplanted hairs (shock loss) is normal. New hair then begins to grow, fine and soft at first.

  4. Months 12–18

Hair thickens and density increases as the result largely settles. The final appearance varies from person to person and is reviewed with your doctor.

Your treatment journey

1

Initial review

You share photos of your hair from several angles along with your health details; the doctor carries out an initial review and outlines a suitable technique and an estimated number of grafts.

2

Written plan and quote

You receive a written plan and quote covering the technique, scope and length of stay, and we confirm your dates together.

3

Arrival and consultation

You are met at the airport and taken to your hotel. At the clinic, you have a consultation with the doctor, blood tests and your hairline design.

4

Procedure day

Follicle extraction and implantation under local anaesthesia are completed within the day. Your interpreter and patient coordinator are with you throughout.

5

Check-up, first wash and follow-up

The next day you have a check-up and dressing change, followed by your first wash and aftercare instructions. Once you are home, we keep following your progress through regular photo check-ins.

What affects the cost

You receive a written, itemised quote once your reports have been reviewed — before you travel.

  • The size of the area to be treated and the number of grafts needed

Frequently asked questions

Is a hair transplant painful?

Because the procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia, most people feel only brief discomfort while the anaesthetic is being given. Tenderness and mild pain are common for the first few days afterwards, and these are usually managed with the pain relief your doctor recommends.

When will I start to see results?

Transplanted hairs may shed temporarily in the first weeks; this is a normal part of the process. New growth usually begins around months 3–4, with a noticeable change around month 6. The result generally takes 12–18 months to settle and varies from person to person.

What are the risks of a hair transplant?

As with any surgical procedure, there are risks such as infection, bleeding, prolonged swelling, numbness, folliculitis (inflamed hair follicles) and lower-than-expected graft survival. Taking too many follicles from the donor area can leave it looking thin, which is why careful planning by an experienced doctor matters. Your doctor will explain the risks that apply to you in detail beforehand.

How do I know if I am suitable?

Suitability depends on the extent of hair loss, the density of your donor area, your age and your general health. When you send your photos, the doctor makes an initial assessment; the final decision is made after the consultation and tests in Istanbul. In some cases, investigating the cause of hair loss or medical treatment may be recommended first.

How long do I need to stay in Türkiye?

A stay of about 3–4 days is usually enough: arrival and consultation, procedure day, then a check-up and first wash the next day. If beard or eyebrow work is also planned, this may change; your exact length of stay is confirmed in your doctor's plan.

What follow-up is there once I return home?

You receive written washing and aftercare instructions. Your patient coordinator collects photos at regular intervals, shares them with your doctor and answers your questions. If you notice unusual redness, discharge or pain, you can reach us 24/7, and we will advise you if you need to see a doctor locally.
